KAKATAIBO

SUMMARY

Possessors in Kakataibo can both control predicate agreement and participate in switch-reference. Both of these processes are restricted to part-whole relations between possessors and possessed nouns. Kakataibo has a complex system of switch-reference (SR) in which SR markers do not just track coreference of subjects, but of intransitive and transitive subjects, as well as subjects and objects. For all of these, possessors in part-whole relations can participate in the SR system, e.g. for indicating co-reference between an object and a possessor of a subject in another clause. Possessors are marked with adnominal genitive case.
