MATSÉS

SUMMARY

Possessors in Matsés can participate in switch-reference, which is restricted to part-whole relations between possessors and possessed nouns. Matsés has a complex system of switch reference (SR) in which SR markers do not just track coreference of subjects, but of intransitive and transitive subjects, as well as subjects and objects. For all of these, possessors in part-whole relations can participate in the SR system, e.g. for indicating co-reference between an object and a possessor of a subject in another clause.
